here is a story about him.....

Harpo really never had a harp teacher, he never learned to read music, nobody ever "trained" him in the conventional sense and the harp is considered a very difficult instrument to learn to play. Being self-taught he tuned it incorrectly and played it on the wrong shoulder. He didn't even start playing the thing until he was in his twenties, when his mother bought him a rather banged up instrument that wasn't very good.

Still, a wonderful harpist named Mildred Dilling did give him some help and got him to break some bad habits, walked him through certain pieces that he wanted to learn. Harpo would give her a phone call to play her something that was causing him trouble and Mildred would move her harp over to the phone and play it back for him until he could correct himself.
