Hamas dismissed US State Secretary John Kerry's announcement of the resumption of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians and slammed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas : "He has no legitimacy to negotiate in the name of the Palestinian people on the core issues."

Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri made it clear to AFP that "Hamas rejects John Kerry's announcement," and the spokesman of the Hamas government, Ihab al-Ghossein, said that "the Palestinian people will not accept those who negotiate on its behalf without a mandate."

Dear shelter, we are nothing but destined to meet again.

And again.

And again

Why? Because his term in office ended on Jan. 9, 2009 and he stays in office with US money and weapons?

As much as I despise Hamas, what they are saying kind of makes sense

Why is it OUR problem?

Hamas should be willing to reach some kind of understanding between the sides.

Or is it that they, like our far right, interested in a never ending war?

Abbas keeps violating the agreement.

Tinmore, you keep saying that his term in office ended in 2009. Then wtf is he still doing there?

This is an honest question

Then tell it to all the stupid ones who believe its ok to make deals with him.

It is doom to fail, thank heavens.

For his defense, this isn't his fault that the Hamas are such bloodthirsty warmongers.

I do agree.

Though their "sense making" is the least of our problems.

In my neighborhood, we all know very well what happens when Hamas is not pleased

You would not have to go into your shelter ever again if Israel would say screw world opinion and make war so terrible on Hamas that it would be generations before they ever thought about firing another rocket!

Nah, you're right, but we don't have an actual leadership which could take of the problem instead of brushing it under the rug.

You may be correct but I don't think Netanyahu has forgotten what he said in the Oval Office last visit about ''....we don't negotiate with terrorists....".

That's true Hoss. Which is why I disagree with the whole prisoner release bullshit

That prisoner release is one of Obama's conditions. Kinda ironic in that he's demanding Israel release murderers at the same time he's still going after George Zimmerman.

This is an honest question

And a good question also. Short version:

Hamas wins Jan. 2006 elections and forms its government.

Aid is cut off to Palestine.

March 2007 unity government is formed.

June 2007 Fatah forces (armed, paid, and trained by the US) attempt to overthrow the elected government and gets run out of Gaza.

Abbas leaves the legal, elected government and with the assistance of the US and Israel appoints an illegal, unelected government in the West Bank.

The end of Abbas' term in office in January 2009 comes and goes virtually unnoticed.

Firstly, 2006 is a long time and Hamas should have allowed another election since then. Secondly, about Abbas' term expiring, when has there ever been a democracy in the Middle East? When has there not been chaos over there? The important thing is the peace talks.

Would you allow elections if those elections would be controlled by an illegal government? how legal would be the results?

The chaos there is created by that illegal government.
