The 1804 Haiti massacre, also referred to as the Haitian genocide,[1][2][3] was carried out by Afro-Haitian soldiers, mostly former slaves, under orders from Jean-Jacques Dessalines against much of the remaining European population in Haiti, which mainly included French people.[4][5] The Haitian Revolution defeated the French army in November 1803 and the Haitian Declaration of Independence happened on 1 January 1804.[6] From February 1804[7] until 22 April 1804, squads of soldiers moved from house to house throughout Haiti, torturing and killing entire families.[8] Between 3,000 and 7,000 people were killed.[7]

The people chosen to be killed were targeted primarily based on three criteria: "skin color, citizenship and vocation." While some whites, such as Poles and Germans who were granted citizenship and "a few non-French veterans and American merchants, along with some useful professionals such as priests and doctors" were spared, political affiliation was not considered.[12] The white victims were almost entirely French, commensurate with their share in the white population of Haiti. About his targets of the massacre, Dessalines' slogan exemplified his mission to eradicate the white population with the saying "Break the eggs, take out the [sic] yoke [a pun on the word 'yellow' which means both yoke and mulatto] and eat the white."[12] Upper class whites were not the only target; any white of any socioeconomic status was also to be killed, including the urban poor known as petits blancs.[34] During the massacre, stabbing, beheading, and disemboweling were common

Haiti won its independence in 1803.
They then ethnically cleansed the French population in 1804.

How "diverse." They don't sound like someone I'd want living in my neighborhood.

To this day, Haitians believe that Satan helped them win and the people were consecrated to Satan in perpetuity. That's why they are the way they are.

You forgot to mention how unspeakably cruel the French slavemasters were to their slaves. Most of the slaves were worked/whipped/starved to death before they could reach middle age. The slavemasters didn't care; it was cheap to get new Africans to take their place.
Those African slaves made lots and lots of money for those French masters. Haiti was one of the wealthiest French colonies. They got so greedy, they didn't realize they were buying more slaves than they could control.
Hence, the 1803 slave rebellion. You forgot to mention Toussaint L'Overture. He was a general of the Haitian Rebellion.

More information on the Haitian Rebellion:
1) Napolean Bonaparte was so broke after fighting the Haitian Rebellion (which he lost) that he sold a gigantic piece of land known as the Lousiana Purchase to President Thomas Jefferson for a very cheap price. Buying that land doubled the size of the USA in 1803.
2) The White Supremacy of the day was so afraid of the enslaved people in the USA leading a rebellion, that they did everything they could to crush the new Black nation of Haiti. They didn't want a FREE Black nation in the Western hemisphere. They kept Haiti poor and powerless from that day to this.
3) The French forced the Haitians to pay them
reparations. Can you believe that? They had to pay reparations for fighting their way out of slavery. That's another thing that has kept Haiti poor.

under spanish rule the original population went to zero
That is true but that was not genocide, it was disease, the Spanish didn't intend to wipe out the original population; however, the Haitian genocide was a well-organized program of the Haitian government to exterminate the white population of Haiti, and that was after they gave their word that the whites would be safe.

Most people don't realize it but the Nazi genocide of World War 2 was not the modern world's first act of government sponsored mass murder. The first in modern history was in Haiti and was committed by the Black Haitian government.

you may be right

but how had thebFrench trested the Blacks?

and what about the Germans in Haiti?
The German and Polish mercenaries joined the rebels and became honorary black men; what rights they enjoyed other than life I don't know.
