I'm happy to believe, as far as I know, that I've never prayed a Hail Mary out of desperation.

When I pray a Hail Mary for another person, I offer it for God's Grace for them. Example -- recently, I drove past an auto accident scene and later learned that one of the people involved died. I drive past this intersection frequently, and I pray the Hail Mary for that person, asking God to take that person gently in His hands and lead her into Heaven.

I remember, I heard from an exorcist who spends a lot of time conversing with demons that the devil suffers pain every time a human being prays the Hail Mary. So every Rosary gives me 53 opportunities to smack the devil upside the head. Can't pass that up.
