Seems reasonable. They aren't entitled to a life of ease simply for being President

Misleading headline: $5 million is total for Clinton, Bush, Obama and Biden ($1.3 million average). Secret Service protection probably doubles it. That is still a lot of money, but we don't want former Presidents to live like paupers.

A bigger problem is how they become so wealthy from their presidencies. Book deal advances are little more than payola that will never be recovered
by the publishers, and private foundations are barely concealed money laundering schemes.

I don't care about book deals, that's up to the publishers.

What I worry about is how they line their pockets by hawking cheap trinkets form the oval office and encourage people to curry favor by buying their bit coins and staying in their properties at inflated prices. Not to mention secret service having to pay inflated prices for cart rentals and room at their resorts every weekend for their entire term.

/----/ Ulysses Grant had no pension or perhaps a small one from the Army. He had to write a memoir on his deathbed so his wife wouldn't live in poverty. But there needs to be a limit.

It is not so much to live off of but to lease office space and hire staff for ex president functions and responsibilities

No president after Truman has faced bankruptcy, that includes Republican and Democrat presidents...
They ensure that by book deals and Foundations paid for by the taxpayers.
Look at how Clinton and Obama became a multi-millionaires after their presidencies.
Joey B is attempting to do the same and that isn't working out too well.
