The State of Illinois is very familiar with gerrymandering... thanks to the Chicago Democratic Party Machine.
The Democratic Party of the State of Illinois and its close-in suburbs (a.k.a. Cook County).
And, of course, the Chicago Democratic Machine rules the State Capitol of Springfield, Illinois, as well.
There is actually a move afoot amongst some 30+ Illinois counties to secede from Illinois and join the State of Indiana.
And the State of Indiana legislature has even good-naturedly enacted a bill to allow that annexation from the Indiana side.
Given the Democratic Machine's iron grip on the State Capitol that secession initiative hasn't got a snowball's chance in Hell.
Heck... just look at the shape of the Congressional District that spans both East St. Louis and Springfield, Illinois.
If you ever needed proof that Democrats routinely and recently engaged in gerrymandering one need look no further...
Designed to ensure Democratic Party control of the State of Illinois...
Heck... the last time that the Republicans had control of City Hall in Chicago?
Early 1933... when lame-duck GOP Mayor Big Bill Thompson made way for incoming Mayor Anton Cermak after the 1932 elections...
That's ninety-two (92) years-plus-change of Democratic Party control of the City of Chicago...
And we all know what a stellar job that the Democrats have done with the City of Chicago, don't we?
From regional commercial superpower to overtaxed Urban Plantation and Barrio... a rotting shell of its former glory...
Of course... Congressional districting and occasional Democratic Party gerrymandering have nothing to do with any of that...

As a related "aside"... one of these days we're going to wise-up and stop counting Illegal Aliens in the US Census.
Even if we have to deal with that prospect on the Constitutional level... by Amendment or by favorable Re-Interpretation by SCOTUS.
