Sewage swamps Gaza streets as Egypt tunnel closures cut off power

Fetid muck, which bubbles up from manholes and overflows from the idle plant when waste goes untreated, could soon spill into the homes of tens of thousands more residents in downtown Gaza City, officials and residents said.

Egypt's months-long crackdown on cross-border smuggling tunnels that used to bring fuel in cheaply has already forced Gaza's only power plant to stop, meaning two weeks of daily 12-hour blackouts for the territory's 1.8 million residents.

Time for the UN to send in boatloads of cash to rescue this failed terrorist enclave.

Hollie, et al,

This is a variation on a theme; the reverse of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) is a global campaign.

  • It is a localized impact, versus global.
  • It is Arab on Arab, as opposed to Palestinian on Israeli.
  • It is non-violent versus rocket and mortars.

A Regional movement by another Arab State against the Palestinian until it comes in good faith to peace talk negotiations.

Most Respectfully,
R

Hey, Rocco.

Those are great observations. With the kidnapping of Egyptian soldiers in the recent past and the previous deployment by Egypt of its tanks in Gaza, the Egyptian government seems to understand they are just as likely beneficiaries of a stable, viable Palestinian state. They're also just as likely victims of a continued, failed terrorist enclave that will forever bleed its neighbors.

I still can't find any real reason to expect the "Arab street" will be persuaded to offer any meaningful traction supportive of ending the split separating Fatah and Hamas and a concerted effort to finally bring a negotiator from the Pal- Arab side to the table.

Last two sentences of the OP article:

"The first question someone asks when invited over by a friend is 'will there be electricity? I don't want to climb the stairs'," said Ali Mohammed, an electrician.

"I blame the whole world," he said.
Naturally!

The Classic Palestinian, indeed Muslim Arab, scapegoating.
"We are never responsible".

Gazans elected Hamas and THEY Are responsible ergo for the non-accommodation/hostility of their neighbors.
Nonetheless they are still supported humanitarily in All aspects of life by the UNRWA/West/USA-EU/us.
