Though I have never seen one (I use a fleet fueling station) I hear they are becoming quite common.

It would seem to me that at a time where you need to be alert to what you are doing and alert to your surroundings, the gas pump is one of the last places you need to be blasted with loud and annoying ads/videos.

I've read where some can be muted and some can't.

In the embedded video it even looks like there are screens on the nozzles!

What we really need are "Gas Pump Girls". ;)

I always mute those when I'm pumping gas because I don't need to be distracted when handling volatile substances. The mute button is not always labeled but unless it's been disabled in the pump's settings, it usually still works. It's always the second one down, to the right of the screen.

I've found several other brands of gas stations where the button isn't labelled, but still mutes the sound with you press the button.

.

The place where I fill doesn't have such a thing.

I feel like you -- I need not be distracted when I'm pumping something flammable.

Good info! :113:

That button isn't marked on some company's pumps.
I've read where some are not marked so people take a Sharpie and mark the mute button.

Damn, talk about your unneeded (and unsafe) aggravation!

Hey, before long you will be charged for going "commercial free" to fill-up. ;)

Somebody marked the button that mutes the audio at the gas ...

Yes, the mute button can sometimes be disabled on certain gas pumps, but most pumps have an unlabeled button on the side of the screen that serves as a mute button. If you can't find it, a common trick is to press the second button down from the top on the right side of the screen. If neither of these works, some people suggest pressing the buttons around the screen until the sound stops, or trying a different gas station.

How to mute the sound
  • Press the unlabeled button: On many pumps, one of the unlabeled buttons on either side of the screen is the mute button.
  • Try the "second button down" trick: A frequently cited tip is to press the second button from the top on the right side of the screen.
  • Press all the buttons: If the above options don't work, press all the unlabeled buttons around the screen until the sound stops.
What to do if the mute button is disabled or doesn't work
  • Try a different gas station: If a particular station's pump is still too loud, one option is to go to a different one. A person on Two Wheeled Texans mentioned reporting that a mute button had been disabled at a station they visited

A five-pound hammer to the screen might work. You'd probably still hear the commercial but wouldn't be so distracted by it.

Oh it is real. I hate it. On TV, in Supercuts, gas pumps. Pounded by loud commercials.

Never noticed any mute button? But I didn't go back many times. Costco didn't have them. I went there instead of Chevron or Shell.

I mute mine while fueling. They are just one more pain in the ass that someone dreamed up.

I especially like it when you push "yes" I want a receipt, and none comes out.
