They are quite competent and their intelligence in the cyber realm is second to none. Of course, their FFL have some of the most hardened and year-round trained grunts in the world.

Don't underestimate their capabilities. Russia wants no part of them I assure you even though Russia has the numbers.

If the E.U decide to defend Ukraine, than Russia cannot win unless they used nukes (which would be M.A.D) or, were able to convince China to lose the lives of their precious young which they desperate need to maintain their population. Even just France alone would ensure Russia doesn't gain another foot and probably lose some ground.

Russia has a larger military which is far more powerful than France, especially in terms of tanks and other vehicles. France is better trained and their intelligence capabilities are formidable at the infantry level (and FFL of course).

In a defensive posture in Ukraine, Russia would be there for a decade and not gain a foot if Ukraine had the numbers of army grunts needed to hold Russia back. One can just imagine how more France would look if they converted into a war-time economy.
