Do you live in Florida?
Have you seen a massive jump in your bills lately?
Have you ever tried to contact them about an obvious error on their part (no need to try, it is impossible. They don't care to hear from you...PERIOD)

Have you come to find out that the Florida Legislature, The PSC and FPL seem to have each others back no matter what?

Yes, yes and yes. FPL contributes to big money to politicians in Florida. Now they're blaming raises on tariffs. Gulf power never charged extra for going over 1000 KWH but man you hit that mark you're fucked.

This is what happens when the governor appoints the PSC commissioners.

There's a whole facebook page on FPL rip offs.

You’re damn right to be pissed. FPL’s pushing through the biggest utility rate hike in U.S. history, and the Florida legislature is just holding the door open for them. Nearly ten billion dollars over four years — and the so-called regulators at the PSC barely pretend to push back. Meanwhile, everyday Floridians are getting crushed, paying storm surcharges on top of regular bills, with zero meaningful recourse when FPL screws up.

And let’s be honest — this isn’t about “reliability.” This is about profit. The legislature gutted rooftop solar, handed FPL a blank check, and now they act shocked when people’s bills spike. Public hearings were buried, scheduled during work hours, and the PSC already has a long history of rubber-stamping whatever FPL puts in front of them.

They’re not regulating. They’re protecting a monopoly. And every lawmaker who helped build that protection racket ought to be voted out — or at least made to explain why their constituents are paying double to keep the lights on.

This is 100% accurate.
They even had the legislature add a REQUIEMENT that you couldn't just sue FPL, you MUST go through the PSC (which is bought and paid for by FPL).

I filed a complaint at the Florida PSC this morning and within 60 seconds guess what?
I got an email FROM FPL telling me how much I own and a payment link.

PSC complaints are actually going directly TO FPL.

We are living in VERY dark, corrupt and evil times.
Combined with taxes, fees and insurance rates people are losing their homes and ability to live in record numbers.

Not to be insensitive to your plight, but I know of two FL families that may be contributing to the problem. They have AC in their screened lanais--seems like cooling the outdoors in FL is the definition of STUPID.

People who get SUBSIDIZED assistance do this all the time.
I've seen people with my own eyes running 15,000watts of heating in the dead of winter with their doors and windows wide open. Their electric bills were paid for by taxpayers. When I asked why, they said they liked the fresh air.

This is the definition of how STUPID GOVERNMENT IS. Rather than give them a reasonable allowance for the bill, they just force taxpayers to pay it, whatever the amount.

I'm telling you, unless Americans rise up in massive numbers we are going to be living in mud huts while a small community at the top live like Pharaohs.

Yeah, these folks are the same way--if the outside temp is 60 degrees these guys have the heater cranking. LOL, I'd love to see them on a couple of our sub zero days.

I'd just love to see some common sense used when giving out taxpayer funds. Unlimited use seems crazy and encourages buffoons to do stuff like this. They should be limited to so many killowatt hours per month. A reasonable amount. After that THEY need to pay or do without.

Why is the government handing taxpayer $$$ out to ANYONE. There IS NO FREE LUNCH. People need to start fending for themselves.

In April 2025 Florida ranked 23rd in the cost of power just slightly higher than neighboring Georgia but who wants to live in Georgia. Still no state tax so Floridians are ahead of the game despite the left's focus on a phony energy price spike.

Not to be insensitive,” he says, before blaming working families for FPL’s legalized price-gouging. Classic.
Let’s be clear: the problem isn’t a couple folks cooling off in screened-in patios. It’s a utility monopoly raking in billions with legislative cover—gutting rooftop solar, rubber-stamping rate hikes, and steamrolling public hearings. FPL’s not hurting because of lanai fans. They’re cashing checks while the rest of us bake.

If you've got money to burn by air conditioning the outside, you've got bigger problems than FPL.

Not sure you understand. The people doing this are not paying for this. YOU are.

This is little more than a money laundering scheme with the only victim being taxpayers.
They use taxpayer funds to pay these malicious bills. The power company loves it, the bureaucracy strips off some for itself and everyone comes out with a windfall...all paid for by taxpayers.

Florida residents,
Be aware that FPL has managed to get the Legislature to give it full control of the PSC (Public Service Commission). The PSC is now nothing more than an FPL office that rubber stamps whatever FPL tells it to.
FPL is free to raise rates any way they see fit and there is no oversight.

Your Florida Legislators have effectively been bought by big money yet again.

I just received my latest bill and it was doubled anything I've paid in the past.
When I reached out to the puppet PSC, the response came directly from FPL and they advised me that the 5 times higher useage for the month that the meter shows is correct and so no adjustment can be made.

I am 100% sincere...the bill was for 5 times more killowatt hours than I've ever used there and there were only two lights were on that month, there was no cooking at all, no diswhashing at all, no water heater (it's gas) and the AC was off. (The property is currently empty). Still they assured me I used 5 times more electricity than ever in the past and would not consider a bill adjustment.

I checked to see if someone could be stealing electricity but that cannot be the case since I switched all outside outlets off at the breaker box.

It's legalized theft pure and simple.

In our area, the NW, often they don't read the meter every month and go by an average that is quite often less than actual usage. They might come around and read the meter once or twice a year and bills can go down but usually go up for that "settle up" month.

My reclaimed sprinkler water went up $30 and i even shut off the system for one and a half weeks, so probably more. My electric bill did too. They waited till summer so you wouldn’t think twice about it.
