forgetting the brutal shooting of a 9 year old girl, and the constant tribute Israel brings forth, the Palestinians bring new demands for the negotiation, as was reported tonight

1. The right of every Palestinian 'refugee' to choose to move to Israel or any other place he or she wishes.

2. Palestinian control on water surrounding the dead sea and borders.

3. Land exchange which won't pass the 1.9%

4. Release of all Palestinian prisoners.

5. Signing agreements with other states without Israel's involvement

Is there anyone still thinking the Palestinians want peace?!:cuckoo:

Numbers 1 and 4 are especially disgusting.

I agree with you on #1. but compensation for losses for both sides is necessary.

I think it addresses compensation, for loss of property that I support.

Israel agrees to release Palestinian prisoners - MyVerizon.com

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel agreed Sunday to release 26 long-serving Palestinian prisoners as part of a U.S.-brokered deal that led to the resumption of Mideast peace talks.

The Cabinet vote set into motion the second leg of prisoner releases agreed upon before Israel and the Palestinians renewed long-frozen peace negotiations in August. At the same time, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is planning on approving new settlement construction to appease hard-liners who oppose the release.

#1 is a Non-Starter. The Palestinians know this.

Of course. They look for an excuse to blow this thing up.

They launched rockets today for the exact same reason.

Kondor3, et al,

This seems to be a variant of the General Assembly Resolution 194 (III), (Para 11) "Resolves that the refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbours should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date, and that compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to return and for loss of or damage to property which, under principles of international law or in equity, should be made good by the Governments or authorities responsible."

  • REFERENCE: 1. The right of every Palestinian 'refugee' to choose to move to Israel or any other place he or she wishes.

It is probably right that this be discussed as part of the restitution, reparation, compensation, and civil claims aspects of the treaty.

#1 is a Non-Starter. The Palestinians know this.
(COMMENT)

This seems more to do with the prior discussion on: What they mean by "refugee?" It is not cut and dry as some would think. (See Posting #20 with Toastman)

Not all "refugees" are "GA/RES/194(II) Refugees." The smaller this number turns-out to be, the less of an issue it becomes. And this is not a simple question to answer.

Most Respectfully,
R

Sad and frustrating.

"...This seems more to do with the prior discussion..."
Rocco...

If the Israelis concede right-of-return to qualifying Palestinian refugees, they admit hostile population elements back in amongst them, and a bumper-crop of future fifth-columnists.

Realistically speaking, I do not think that the Israelis can safely do such a thing, nor do I believe them likely to do so, regardless of how one defines 'eligible refugees'.

Far safer to compensate them in return for quit-claims.

But that's just me.

Number 5 is also troublesome. It would mean that a future Palestine could sign an agreement with Iran. More unreasonable demands.

"...Number 5 is also troublesome. It would mean that a future Palestine could sign an agreement with Iran. More unreasonable demands."
But that is what it means to become a Sovereign Nation.

You can enter into any agreement you like with any other power on the face of the planet without anyone else's permission.

If the Israelis are foolish enough to grant a two-state solution then they must concede full sovereignty to their opposities - no half-measures will be considered acceptable.

Consequently, the only way to ensure that this does not happen is NOT to concede a two-state solution in the first place.

Once you make that concession, everything else in your worst nightmare scenarios about the destruction of Israel begins to unfold, at a fairly rapid pace.

Keep squeezing Rump Palestine smaller and smaller, and keep squeezing those crazies off the land, until it all belongs to Israel? American will probably turn a blind eye.

Grant them a sovereign state of their own and then try to prevent them from entering into treaties with foreign powers? You might actually find America standing against Israel.

The solution is simple.

Don't make the concession.

Otherwise, in all likelihood, you open floodgates which can never be closed again.

Israel has the upper hand.

The only way that it can lose is if its leadership loses its nerve and acts in a cowardly fashion.
