First new settlement for 20 years?

Netanyahu is the elected Prime Minister of Israel, and therefore he is pressured from his own party and from other members of the Knesset to find a solutiuon for those who were expelled from Amona (In Judea and Samaria), and since he's Israel's prime minister, Israeli pressure is more meamiongful to him than other kind of pressure if NOT building a new settlement.

That's my logic, anyway.

Yes, totally agree...

But it does smack of hypocrisy that the Israeli government are in negotiations to reduce settlements and then they announce a new settlement!

Why be involved in negotiations when you know you aren't going to, and have no intention of, finding an agreeable solution?

I don't know what those negotiations included, if it was about total total stop of settlements buildings, or just some parts. I do admit I have no idea what Netanyahu is planning on the long run. And how are we supposed to know these people won't be thrown out of the new settlemt, too?

I'm confused.

Indeed... Whatever the details of the negotiations have been, they were still about reducing settlement activities... A total stop or in part who knows.... The word I have seen used is "reduce"...

Of course, it is just my feeling, but my biggest concern of the 'long term' plans of Netanyahu and Israel is the continued building of settlements, the annexation of more land and territory, to the extent that it becomes unviable to create a Palestinian state... Unfortunately I do believe that this is the long term goal...

Settlements are a way for Israel to simply expand their territory 'peacefully' and without too much condemnation from the international communities.... Far easier and less expensive this way than trying to take territory by force...

I am against settlements and this new settlement is just another nail in the coffin for finding a peaceful solution...

Whatever your view on the settlements, why is Netanyahu playing at?

He is negotiating with the U.S on reducing settlement activity!

You failed to state WHY you are against new settlements.

That suggests that you are a great liar, and I will fight you because you are a liar.

You FAILED to read my comment clearly, though, please, let me try and elaborate for you....

Settlements are considered under 'international law' to be illegal....

Netanyahu is currently in negotiations with the US to 'reduce' settlement activity, then announces a new settlement...

If, as I believe is the most palpable solution, a two state solution, continuing to build settlements further blocks any chance of finding that solution....

How you think that I am a "liar" based upon my last comment is beyond me but there we are...

It's called pretend. The whole thing is about Eretz Israel or greater Israel. They don't just want Palestine, but all the land from the Nile to the Euphrates. They believe that this is their biblical land promised to them by G-d.

The-Promised-Land.jpg

Sadly, they forgot everything else from G-d.

Now you see why the Jews keep tricking us into fighting their stupid wars. Remember the WMD lies and the mass murder that followed in Iraq? And now they are bombing of Syria again.

That's not true. Under Obama, the US objected to any new construction in Judea and Samaria, but now the Trump administration has no objection to new construction within existing Israeli communities but wants Israel to hold off on approving new communities while Trump tries to establish a regional peace between Israel and the Arabs. The disputes between Israel and the Palestinians are not longer the focus of US policy, a regional peace between Israel and the Arab nations is and the Palestinians are just one item to be considered if such a regional peace is possible.

So what Trump and Netanyahu have apparently agreed on is that new construction within existing communities is now unlimited but the establishment of new communities is on hold while Trump takes his turn spinning the wheel on peace between Israel and the Arab nations.

I repeat, the Israeli Jews have never had any intention of permitting the creation of a sovereign state for non-Jews (Muslims and Christians) within the territory of mandatory Palestine. The Barak offer (Camp David) did not provide sovereignty. The Israeli Jews would have maintained control of the air space, borders and territorial sea and the military occupation would have continued indefinitely. Israel has never been serious about a two-state solution, just forget it, there will not be a two-state solution. The Palestinian people have gotten the message, two thirds of them no longer believe that there will be a Palestinian state. The corrupt leadership still plays along as they are paid to support the two-state solution. Israel will either become a secular, democratic state by enfranchising the non-Jews under its rule, or it will continue to be an Apartheid state ruling over 3 Bantustans.

Two-thirds of Palestinians no longer believe in 2-state deal

You just said that Netanyahu and Trump have come to an agreement that the Israelis can build within existing settlements, but they cannot build new ones. Humanity posted a link about Netanyahu authorizing a new settlement. He asked why would Netanyahu do that if this is not part of the new agreement between Israel and the U.S. You said this was a stupid question. He asked why. Now take it up from there...
