The exit polling reveals three crucial factors in Trump's win, factors that sensible Democrats would be wise to ponder:

1. First and most important, Republican turnout exceeded Democrat turnout by 13%. Republicans accounted for 35% of voters. Democrats accounted for 31% of voters, a difference of 4 percentage points or 13%. In contrast, in 2020, Democrat turnout topped GOP turnout 37% to 36%.

IOW, a whole lotta Democrats stayed home this time around. When your party's share of the turnout drops by a whopping 6 percentage points from the previous election, or by 19.5%, you know you had serious problems in your own ranks.

2. Trump's share of the Independent vote was 12.2% larger than it was in 2020. In 2020, Trump won 41% of the Independent vote. This time around he won 46%. This was especially important because Independents accounted for 34% of the vote, whereas in 2020 they accounted for 26% of the vote, an increase of 8 percentage points or 31%--a sizable shift.

3. Harris's share of the Independent vote was 10.2% lower than Biden's share in 2020. Biden won 54% of the Independent vote in 2020. Harris got 49% of the Independent vote. Again, this was big because the Independents accounted for 31% more of the total turnout this time around.

So, Democrats, perhaps you should ask yourselves these questions: Why did so many of your fellow Democrats stay home this time? Why did Harris not even come close to matching Biden's performance among Independent voters? Why did Trump improve his share of the Independent vote by 12.2%?

Putin stole the election 2016 and did it again in 2024.

He was drunk most of 2020.

In other words all the Dems needed were more fraudulent mail in ballots than 2020.

I like these three factors for the Trump win:

CNN was part of the big lie about Biden's mental health and using fake polling data to pretend that Harris was ahead. WTF would cause Americans to rely on post election CNN exit polling results? Insanity doubled?

YBH I don't give much stock to exit polling since nobody has ever told be ever they were polled as they exited so I have no idea where these polls allegedly take place. Disregarding that aspect of it, it all boils down to democratic enthusiasm was in the trash heap.

There's only one answer:

Democrats are racists and misogynists and wouldn't vote for a black woman. Couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that prices were up and crime was up, the border was out of control, and Biden has gotten us involved in more wars than any other president.

Thanks for the post. It contains a lot of interesting data I wasn't aware of. Notably, the party turnout number which is paradoxically very encouraging and discouraging at the same time. The positive spin for Dem's being if there was more enthusiasm about the candidate trump would have lost despite Dem's facing an uphill battle against misdirected anger over inflation. The downside is, and this extends to both parties, the country hasn't gotten over its historical attitude about a woman, especially a black one, leading the nation.
It's unfortunate because I assure you Harris would not be going out of her way to pick the most unqualified people she can find to fill out her cabinet. Nor would she have the stench of two criminal indictments being vacated without them going to trial after creating an alternate reality regarding the facts of the cases.
