Martin Scorsese's unusual and creative film about Jesus of Nazareth, The Last Temptation of Christ, looks at the metaphysical life of Jesus Christ with a 'choose-your-own-adventure' lens to highlight the personalization advantages of Christianity.
While other religions offer strict doctrine or non-negotiable dogmas, Christianity offers its follows many chances to offer their own interpretations of spiritual ideas such as mercy, teamwork, and ambition.
So here is a mock religion-points Euthanasia dialogue about Jesus between Krishna (Hindu god of negotiation) and Shiva (Hindu god of destruction).
====
KRISHNA: Judaism split into Christianity and Islam as the sons of Abraham (Isaac and Ishmael) drifted.
SHIVA: Yes, Isaac was the father of modern Judaism and the 'ancestor' of Jesus' Christianity.
KRISHNA: Ishmael was 'considered' to be an inspiration of Muhammad and Islam.
SHIVA: Scorsese's The Last Temptation of Christ looks at Jesus as a 'man of worries.'
KRISHNA: Yes, in the film, Jesus must choose between a life of peace and a life of struggle.
SHIVA: We get the feeling that Jesus' life encourages Christians to meditate on 'inner-demons.'
KRISHNA: Many modern 'apocrypha' folklore ascribe to Jesus a wife/girlfriend or even offspring!
SHIVA: There are even 'conspiracy theories' about secret military codes hidden in the New Testament.
KRISHNA: If Jesus was a 'man of worries,' he must have considered the 'practicality' of 'metropolis.'
SHIVA: Having 'worldly worries' (e.g., bills) can drive a man insane, if he is also a 'revolutionary.'
KRISHNA: That's how the Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara ran into many mental woes.
SHIVA: Perhaps Jesus liked to drink wine/beer.
KRISHNA: Perhaps Jesus did indeed have a girlfriend/wife.
SHIVA: To make things clearer, we can offer up more useful theories to this discussion.
KRISHNA: Yes. Perhaps Jesus constantly ruminated on the symbolism surrounding suicide.
SHIVA: Suicide is equivalent to self-destruction, but it can also be 'medical' (i.e., Euthanasia).
KRISHNA: Perhaps then Jesus was the first 'prophet' to brood about Euthanasia!
SHIVA: I would argue then that Jesus also considered the wisdom of refuting Euthanasia.
KRISHNA: True, doctors say, "Hospitals were built to preserve life, not assist suicide!"
SHIVA: Jesus could have contemplated the 'economic wisdom' of suicide.
KRISHNA: True, overcrowded hospitals with patients in irreversible pain 'mandates' Euthanasia.
SHIVA: Hindus and Buddhists suggest pain can be transcended with imagination.
