Some 1,000 Ethiopian Israelis protested across Jerusalem on Thursday evening against two incidents of police brutality on minority youths. The protesters clashed with police and blocked roads – as well as the light-rail train – in the capital.

The protest focused on "the racism and violence towards Israel's Ethiopians" and saw scores of protesters clash with police. "There are racist cops but they are a minority, the real problem is not the police but the discrimination and neglect,"

We've had enough! No to racism, no to discrimination.

Does anyone care about Israel's institutionalized racism?

Op-ed: The attack on an Israeli Ethiopian by a police officer left everyone shocked because demeaning the IDF uniform was more painful than demeaning a young man.

Incidents like the recent brutal assault on an IDF soldier by police officers no longer shock Israel's Ethiopian community; they've become a matter of routine for citizens who feel like the Israel Police's punch bag.

Yes, that's the reality in the neighborhoods in which the community resides. Police brutality is a daily occurrence. Not a day goes by without me getting a call from a mother whose son has been beaten for no reason, from a youth who is facing criminal charges, from a pedestrian who was stopped by police and slapped around a little. It's become the way of life – and it's all down to the color of our skin.

That statement says a lot.

Israeli riot police clash with Ethiopian migrants outside Netanyahu's residence

Ethiopian immigrants clashed with Israeli security forces near prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem late on Thursday after a protest against police racism descended into violence.

Riot police equipped with water cannons cordoned off Mr Netanyahu's residence in Balfour Street after around 1,000 demonstrators marched there to voice anger over video footage showing officers beating an Israeli soldier of Ethiopian origin in an apparently unprovoked attack.

Mr Netanyahu issued an appeal for calm after police and demonstrators – many of them holding placards denouncing racism – fought in nearby Independence Park.

"I strongly condemn the beating of the Ethiopian IDF [army] soldier and those responsible will be held accountable," he said. "However, no one is allowed to take the law into their own hands. The immigrants from Ethiopia and their families are dear to us and the State of Israel is taking many steps to ease their integration into society.

"Nir Barkat, Jerusalem's mayor, arrived at the scene and tried to placate the crowd.

The interventions failed to produce a calming effect. After leaving the prime minister's residence, demonstrators marched down King George Street before turning into Jaffa Street – West Jerusalem's main thoroughfare – where they surrounded and pummeled a waiting police car.

How did hamas deal with their protesters then, would you prefer that ISRAEL did the same and mowed them down without a thought.

Hopefully, Israel will handle this hate. Netanyahu must have caught the teaper hate bug when he visited the States.
