Elon‘s Starbase, TX city is born

We used to call them company towns
Towns that grew around places of employment and controlled by that employer
Do you feel that Elon is doing a bad thing here?

With Amazon I doubt Elon would have the control of a company town

I don’t see the advantage of it

Do you feel that Elon is doing a bad thing here? You did say we used to call such endeavors “company towns”, with the implied message that those are undesirable. Am I incorrect?

The only drawback is that the town acts on behalf of the company instead of its residents

Well, the citizens profit from the work and the town does as well. It's a symbiotic relationship really. THe company wants the town to be successful and a draw for talent. They want the reputation that their benevolence brings (assuming they are paid and treated well).

I'd work for Musk for sure the guy inspires you to be part of a winning team. I played sports the vast majority of my life, who doesn't like to win in competitive pursuits?

That’s not what a company town is…that is in fact actually just a town

A company town is one in which the company itself owns all the housing and stores in the community
