Trump's ties to Epstein were known - have been for a long time. The Dems probably figured that if Trump could basically admit to committing sexual assault on a hot mic and win the White House, there was probably little value in weaponizing Epstein's files (which are considered sensitive information by law and can't be just released on a whim).

Again, it wasn't Dems who demanded to see these files. It was MAGAs who wanted to see them, assuming that they'd be able to embarrass Democrats like Bill Clinton and Larry Summers. I guess they forgot that Trump had an association with Epstein and may have something to hide himself.
