We gotta call one tomorrow. We can and have fixed everything that has gone wrong in this house for the past ten years, but...we are not electricians. And we need one. I turned off a light switch in the patio room and sparks came flying out of it. So, I put masking tape over it so nobody switches it back on. Half the sockets in both roomies rooms don't work or flip the breaker, some in hubbies room don't work either. All mine do. Unless I use the blow dryer. Then it flips the breaker off so I presume it is on a different line. In essence, half the house is shut down and we can't fix it. So.....I get the wonderful job (not) of calling the landlord and giving him the expensive news.
We all agreed that we would never ask him for anything unless it was something beyond our abilities. I have called him 3 times in 10 years. Once for ground termites that were discovered in the kitchen counter base; we called him because the septic tank needed to be pumped; the roof was collapsing over the kitchen area after a big storm a few years ago. We fixed that ourselves but he paid for the tiles and wood to replace the beam. Everything else, we have done ourselves at our expense. Fridge goes out? We get another one from a yard sale. Dishwasher goes out, we bought a new one (that the last roomie broke, so now we don't have one at all); garbage disposal fizzled so we took it out too and now have a strainer in the sink and toss all it catches in the trash can; and it was a two bedroom when we moved in..and it is now a 4 bedroom. At our cost. We also have a fence in the front yard..again on our dime. This time, we can't do it. Electrical. Shudder. And it's going to cost a bunch.
