Uruguay's race between two centrist candidates bucks a Latin America trend of sharp right-left divides, with significant overlap between the major conservative and liberal coalitions taking some of the sting out of the result.

I contrast this to the elections in the US. No ugliness, no one side calling the other side evil and the enemy. The whole country is not ripped in half every time there is an election.

There are lessons to be learned.

It is also good that it seems they have rejected lowering the retirement age by five years to 60

I know very little about Uruguay

But I do know better than to trust leftwing publications such as Reuters

If they say Orsi is a centrist then chances are still pretty left wing

Still, a socialist paradise might be just the place for harpy eagle and other American fence jockeys
