My oldest son is doing well with wrestling, and I'm proud of him for jumping right back in as he's over the flu but still pretty exhausted. Being sick for a while really takes it out of you, and wrestling training is the toughest there is. Here's the part where I whine like a crotchety old man: I had to drag my ass out of bed at the crack of "it's what the hell time?!" to drop off him and a friend of his at practice. Gonna have to pick them up in a few hours, so here comes the nap.

Support of such activities can be an expensive pain in the ass for parents.

I nap nearly every day.
I decided at the start of this week that I would not be attending the gym.
I am too old to care about a week. I impress no one except my blood result, and those won't happen again for a couple of months.
Tonight I shall become drunk for the last time until I go on vacation on April 1.
That three-month wagon ride will be rough. I hate that GD wagon.

Wrestling is one of the least expensive sports to participate in. The "pain in the ass" part comes from transportation from A to B. Now hockey is a serious pain in the ass in both equipment and very, very early traveling around.

True. Because my son and his wife spend so much on their daughter's hockey career there's nothing left for their son.

When I was in HS, the wrestling team was by far the most demanding sport. The football players who did both said there was no comparison between the effort put in at FB practice and at wrestling practice. I remember those crazy bastards working out in a steam-filled shower room, trying to take off a pound or two (by sweat) before a match. Today's "everyone gets a trophy" crowd would have been appalled.

Its hard as we age...but the lessons he will learn from wrestling are lifelong. I used to go to all our high school wrestling meets but now dont get out much. But i always admired the dedication it took to be a good wrestler. To me is such a pure form of sport. Man vs man nobody to blame other thsn the guy in the mirror. No time for pity get back on the mat.

Whenever I run into any of my old wrestlers, it's the only think they can talk about. It really becomes part of your identity.

When I boxed in the amatuers, I occasionally trained with wrestlers in order to make weight.
Their workouts were brutal.

FYI, I would like to apologize for the amount of spelling and grammar errors in this thread. My temperature keeps fluctuating between 105 and 110, and it's cooking my brain.

Wrestlers are a different breed in a good sense. Same with hockey. Its a way of life. Hockey parents surrender many a weekend to travelling tournaments. Not easy.

Hockey costs a fortune. The youngest has expressed some interest in it, but I'm trying to direct hm elsewhere. After break, he's going to start youth wrestling and see if he catches on to it. They want me to do a little coaching too.

I won't be drinking anything tonight. I had a few "Tom 'n Jerry's" at Christmas time but got a little sick (bad eggs in the mix?) so I don't have the appetite for any booze. I will have a big bowl of buttered popcorn and a tall glass of cold milk while watching the festivities next to a nice fire in the fireplace. I may not make it to midnight.
