I thought Fauci got an autopen pardon? Am I wrong about that?

Preemptive pardons should be null and void whether or not they were done by autopen.

Biden Pardons Fauci

Yes, President Joe Biden issued a preemptive pardon to Dr. Anthony Fauci in his final hours in office on January 20, 2025. The pardon was granted to protect Fauci from potential politically motivated prosecutions by the incoming Trump administration, which had repeatedly threatened retribution against critics. Biden stated the pardons were necessary due to the "unjustified and politically motivated prosecutions" that public servants like Fauci faced, emphasizing that the action should not be construed as an admission of guilt. Fauci himself accepted the pardon, expressing gratitude and stating he had committed no crime, but acknowledged the threats and potential prosecution created "immeasurable and intolerable distress" for him and his family. The pardon covered any potential offenses Fauci may have committed from January 1, 2014, through January 20, 2025.

I think it more important that the traditional Presidential pardon be considered sacrosanct than it is to prosecute Fauci. It doesn't prevent exposure of Fauci's criminality if there in fact was criminality.

But Congress definitely should pass a law that Presidential pardons must be signed by the President himself and autopen signatures are invalid unless the President goes public and unmistakably states for all to hear that he is issuing that pardon. .

(I think this is necessary just in the very rare cases where a presidential pardon must be imminent to save a person but the President is away from the White House at the time. The President always has access to media, even when he is on Air Force One.

Whether that could be made retroactive is highly questionable though.

Mixed feelings about this. I just cannot see the preemptive pardon as a just and valid use of Presidential pardon power.

This is absolutely ludicrous.
