they are individual memorials

in former Nazi occupied Europe

in front of houses, where Jews lived, that were murdered by the Nazis

AI can tell you more about it than I ever could

Yes. They are one of many little memorials to people who were harmed by the Nazis. I have seen them, little brass plaques, little poles with names and information and larger statues. I think it was Hungary where we saw all the little bronze shoes on the Elbe representing Jewish victims. There were some memorials from 10/7 there on it too.

that project started in 1992.
so there are many now all over Europe.

Sounds a little like the land acknowledgements that some do here in the US and Canada, with the exception that in Europe you know the identities of the specific people displaced on the Stolpersteines.

Putting a plaque outside a house is okay, but so what? Are you going to find the nearest living descendants of the Jews who were forced from that home and return the property to them? That would seem the next logical step after you went to all the work to find out who lived here. If you're not going to return the property of offer compensation, then I think it's just a way to assuage gentile guilt and not a little hypocritical.

As you might expect, I don't much think about the land acknowledgements either. Some take it very seriously, and open public meetings with them. Here in San Jose, a Tamian tribe of Ohlone speaking peoples used to live where my home currently sits. The Tamian are all long gone now, which avoids the sticky issue of who I might need to give it back to.

Cowardice Is the Crime That Enables All Others

Why did the Jews fight back violently, even in the 1920s, once the Nazis got 10% of the vote? That obstruction would have prevented World War Two.

Doormats Who Got Both Death and Dishonor

they all are like that

you should not physically stumble

just take notice
I strongly condemn what happened in the past. But I also oppose those guilt injectors. Heck, can´t I even walk anywhere without Holocaust?
And it is very hard to believe in their war on fascism and anti-semitism as they turn our country into an anti-semitic hell hole. So why don´t we remove all the Stolperstones and rebuild the Reichstag with them. After all it is their guilt and their responsibility. Also their pillows should be made of Stolperstones. And their meals. Even the tombstones.
