Me tinks, the thought of Space Travel for now and the moderate future is balderdash! Why you ask? Simply because neither "time nor tide awaits any man", so to speak. I make this statement with the TV program Ancient Aliens in mind. The folks on that program simply have too much free time on their hands. Instant travel time portals which move a being 1344 light years away, like NOW, are a bit far fetched, which is to imply, not about to happen. Travel to the Moon, a lousy 244,000 miles is one thing, to the Orion Nebula, an astounding 1344 light years, is another. According to the Ancient Alien folks, Orion is where these guys and our alien visitors came from. Your thoughts?

You have to start somewhere!

So until the aliens come back and collect their specimens and finally show the human race that we are not alone, we can only try..

As within 1.2 Billion years the Earth will be uninhabitable..

Well, it most certainly will remain so if we don't try. So you suggest we do nothing and that will mean we will never have the chance.

You're right that it is nearly impossible based on current knowledge of physics but as history has shown that doesn't remain so.

I think the fact that we can't find any aliens is good evidence that the speed of light is as fast as it gets.

It's highly unlikely that we won the cosmic lottery and were the first technological civilization to arise. If faster-than-light travel was possible, those races that arose millions of years before us would have discovered it. And they would have spread quickly, and found the lush planet Earth before humans arose, and taken it for their own.

But no races did. Hence, that seems to indicate that interstellar travel is extremely difficult for every race.

At no point did I say it was impossible except for the present. Have you ever wondered what happens to those billion of stars, planets, comets etc when space is warped enough to jump huge amounts of distance? Warp the ocean like that and I have to think something might go bug fug. Just a thought. Warp Broadway in new York and see what happens. If there is intelligent or unintelligent life in the universe, except on earth, how is it going to feel about that when north is west and east is north, for a spell?

Hello Mamooth. I agree with with you in principle. Further, how many so called earth civilizations have been wiped out in the past few million of years by man made or natural mega disaster. As no evidence has been found perhaps none. But if mom earth has the needed elements to do it once then she has the goods to do it more than once. Perhaps we have been so busy trying to reach light speed, in the past, it may not be a good idea to try again. Based upon current rationalization, that is as likely as any other supposition. Maybe those old folks with long beards from times past knew something we have forgotten or never knew. So much is possible and we don't have a clue as we do not think it could be. Nice talking with you.
