Food assistance programs “should not be a bargaining chip for ending a government shutdown,” the board said. “ ... The quickest solution to protecting (SNAP benefits) is for Democrats to join Republicans in voting to reopen the government, and then they can fight over public policy.”

“Keeping the government open should be separated from policy disputes about how to spend taxpayer money,” The Post board said. “It is wrong that Democrats have held the government hostage for a month in hopes of extending costly Obamacare subsidies, just as it was for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to shut down the government in 2013 for 16 days in a bid to defund the Affordable Care Act altogether.”

This is not from a guest conservative columnist, or even a regular liberal columnist. This is the Editorial board itself - The Washington Post itself - opposing the Democrats for the first time in my memory.
This reminds me for all the world of when Johnson lamented that he had lost Walter Cronkite.
Every day that goes by gets worse for Democrats. Now that the WaPo has opened the door, the other news outlets will not sit by why Schumer and Jeffries come out every day to call this "The Trump Republican shutdown."
To think that if the Democrats had done the right thing from the beginning, there would almost certainly be a deal on ACA subsidies before the clean CR runs out on November 21st. Take the (metaphorical) gun away from the heads of every American, especially the poor, and the Reps can be remarkably reasonable.
