The Williams Chapel Church (a local black church) held it's annual Good Friday Fish Fry today and as usual it did not disappoint!

Two generous portions of fried White Fish.

Four delicious Hush Puppies.

Ham seasoned Green Beans or Collard Greens.

Potato Salad or Slaw. (Their potato salad is most excellent, and the wife uses their recipe).

Strawberry Bunt Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting.

Cold drink (or coffee/tea) of your choice.

$15.00 each.

As per the tradition everything is homemade. Let me tell you, those old black ladies can flat-out cook!

I always give them a $50.00 upkeep donation to boot.

It's always been a struggling church because it's so old and a lot of the trade guys that used to help them out have passed so I like helping them out.

Anyway, you are in Murdermore so I suspect you are skeered to go out with $50.00 in your pocket.

Anyway, I bought three meals as the daughter is up for Easter.

It is a non profit. Those DONATIONS are what keep these events happening. Granges, Churches and fraternal organizations always provide more than what they charge.

Reminds me of the cooking of an old friend Ruby Bishop, a Seattle R&B/jazz icon. If you were lucky enough to be invited to an event at her home, there were two things I guarantee you'd never forget -- the food and the entertainment!

I used to go get lunch at a huge black church near my place in DC. International House of Prayer, or something like that. All old black ladies and, for sure, the food was fire. The coolest thing was that, because the ladies were so old, you skip out without paying and they didn't notice.
