Regarding the profanity rule (foul language, cursing, cussing, and etc.):

There has been an uproar lately over the censorship of foul language. This decision was handed down by the site administrators, who are OUR bosses. So, in an attempt to clarify, this post will explain the nuances of the rule.

1. The rule itself applies only to forums that are not in the Taunting Arena (Zones 1 and 2). Though words may still be filtered in the Taunting Arena, actions that would normally be enforceable, like attempting to circumvent the filter, will not be enforced, that includes gifs and pictures. (see 4).

2. The rule does not apply to private messages and other non board comments.

3. Words that may seem like cussing, such as daggumit, dadgumit, freaking, frikkin', or 'son of a biscuit' are not seen as attempts to circumvent the filter.

4. Using special characters to evade the filter in Zones 1 and 2 as stated in the forum guidelines, are enforceable actions. If the word appears as ***** (rhymes with witch) and you intentionally use an exclamation mark for example, like so: b!tch, that is seen as evasion of the filter.

5. Not all posts that violate this rule can be monitored. Please report it. Abuse of the report function will get your privilege to report posts revoked.

6. This rule is still under development and is subject to change until finalized by forum leadership.

I sincerely hope this helps.

FAQ:

Q: Is it OK to cuss if the words get filtered out?

A: To my knowledge, yes, so long as you don't evade the filter.

Q: Is it a more serious bannable offense to avoid cussing by typing similar but not offensive words (like "fricking?").

A: No.

Q: Is it a rule violation to say a cuss word if the filter does not recognize it as one and lets it through?

A: No. But be aware that this could be subject to change.
