Certain American politicians are above criticism because they had the overall support of the media. George Marshall is one of those icons. He was appointed over more qualified generals as COS during WW2 probably because he was a FDR loyalist. The Truman administration appointed Marshall Secretary of State which was way above his pay grade and he succeeded in disarming Chinese loyalists after the war to pave the way for Mao's revolution.
