CATL is already manufacturing a sodium ion battery. We should be seeing it in vehicles by the end of this year. Will it live up to the early expectations? Well, in a decade and a half, lithium ion batteries dropped from about $1500 per Kwh to about $115 per Kwh today. It looks like it might be possible as mass scale production ramps up that the sodium ion battery could be as cheap as $10 per Kwh. That would put the price of the EV's less than that of comparable ICE cars.
