Miriam Adelson was one of seven individuals to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, on Friday.​

The White House lauded Adelson the as a “committed doctor, philanthropist, and humanitarian,” but not everyone believed the Israeli-American physician — known best as a leading GOP megadonor alongside her husband Sheldon — was deserving of the exclusive jewelry.​

​

NBC’s Robert Schlesinger noted that the Adelsons gave more than $20 million to Trump’s 2016 campaign, saying Trump’s decision “perfectly captures the crassly transactional nature of Donald Trump and his presidency.”​

​

Paul Krugman of the New York Times ripped the decision, calling it an “insult to people who received the medal for genuine service.”​

​

Between the two, the wealthy couple was the top contributor to Trump’s campaign, excluding Trump himself. They also chipped in $5 million toward Trump’s inauguration.​

If you are a son of the south, then you know that Rush's tendencies on race related musings, while somewhat racist by today's standard, were and still aren't uncommon. Was he worse than many? Not really, or he would have been run off the air, even back then. He lampooned everybody and everything, from light ethnic to poor people, to soccer moms, social media influencers to small car importers, providing lively entertainment. Verbal caricatures by him highlight truths that could be observed, whether due to actual character or not, and often not, hence your disapproval. But, he also brought out points on news of the day, in an interesting way, that kept listenership long term and kept it growing. Truly impressive and society where newspaper is dead and radio news along with it. I am not racist by anybody's standard, but I listened to the package he presented on a daily basis, during lunchtime, every chance I got. Talent on loan from God? Hardly. But talented at his trade nonetheless. I have a certain amount of respect and admiration for anybody, doing their job well and with style. Drug addict? At one time, yes, due to ear problems and doctors, but he kicked the drugs, as far as I know, and that takes personal strength, as many simply spiral down. He passed of complications from lung cancer, not drug addiction, and stayed on the job, right up to the end. I will not speak ill of the man, at this point.
