One got 18 to life, other got 20 to life. Not sure, but i think 18 to life means you HAVE to do 18 before you can apply for parole. They deserved life without possibility of parole but no one expected that since they are non-white. I remember when this happened two years ago ; i thought they'd get no prison time at all.

Jesus Ayala, 20, and Jzamir Keys, 18, were sentenced in Clark County District Court on Tuesday for the murder of 64-year-old retired California police chief Andreas “Andy” Probst in August 2023, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

Ayala, who was 17 at the time, will be locked up for 20 years to life. Keys, who was 16, was slapped with 18 years to life.
Ayala and Keys pleaded guilty in October to second-degree murder and battery, both with the use of a deadly weapon, for deliberately hitting and killing Probst, 64, from behind as he rode his bike on a residential street.

The two had stolen a Hyundai Elantra used in the crime before Keys began filming a horrifying video from the passenger seat.

This was a plea deal and i understand why those are done , but i still think the prosecutor went soft on them. I bet these two monsters would have accepted 30 to life.

In Pennsylvania when you get life w/o they let you out when your dying.

Even for 2nd they keep you for life. 3rd...if you keep a clean record you can get out in 7 years.

Correct. When the judge hands down a "sentencing range," the convicted criminal must do the minimum amount given before he or she can be considered for parole. The best way to deter the criminal from being released after reaching the minimum amount of stated time to be served, is for families of the victim(s), to press the parole board to continue keeping the criminal incarcerated. It's not a guarantee that they'll stay incarcerated but helps.

That's my point. This case was truly open and shut. I know the state wants to avoid a costly trial, but these two killers would have accepted a much stiffer sentence than they got.

There smartass attitude they showed in court isn't going to serve them really that well in the joint. Killing a police officer isn't the worst thing to go up for, in the eyes of the other inmates. But unless these two learn how to show respect quickly, they are looking at getting their wigs split in short order

Another crime much much worse than the george floyd death since the victim here was not a serial felon like floyd while the killers were truly super-evil monsters in contrast to derek chauvin who merely did what the rules specified. But the press has buried this story like they do all black on white crimes.

Hey, as the act was premeditated, my belief is that both should have been given life in prison with no parole. But they aren't dealing with that situation.
