He saw that nobody on television was lampooning Democrats and Liberalism, because it would lead to instant cancellation. But they are so ripe for satire, he decided that he might just be too big to cancel and went for it:
I don't know if he really had any change of heart, or just sees the liberal movement going to far and getting away from him. He's good friends with Ann Coulter, a print media pundit who regularly mocks the left in her column, so maybe she rubbed off on him.
