he U.S. Army on Friday formally declined to award Purple Heart medals to the victims of Major Nidal Hasan's shooting rampage at Fort Hood, saying the move would damage his ability to receive a fair trial.

That is truly heartbreaking.
 
Doesn't this just make you feel all warm and fuzzy?
 
Isn't being shot by a nut thousands of miles from the zone a teensy weensy little bit different than being wounded in combat?

They were shot while in the service of the US military. They should get the medals.
 
They were victims of a crime not combat victims
