A new bleak-sounding app has taken China by storm.

Named Are You Dead? the concept is simple. You need to check in with it every two days – clicking a large button – to confirm that you are alive. If not, it will get in touch with your appointed emergency contact and inform them that you may be in trouble.

It was launched in May last year to not much fanfare but attention around it has exploded in recent weeks with many young people, who live alone in Chinese cities, downloading it in droves.

This has propelled it to become the most downloaded paid app in the country.

Not a bad idea for oldsters living alone here.

I was watching A Man Called Otto yesterday and the only way they knew something was amiss was that he had not shoveled his walk.

Last month a childhood friend was found in his home three months after his death.

.

That's what daily Mass is for. If I fail to go to Mass two days in a row, somebody's calling me. And the same with all of the regular daily Mass attendees.

Friends.

Well I am old and live alone. Might be a few days before I was noticed gone. Not really looking to do much about it though. Doubt I will have many worries when I am done.

That's about the way I feel about it.

My childhood friend that passed really did not want to have anything to do with people anyway. He was pretty much a recluse while still in his 40s. He worked for his brother reupholstering furniture and when his brother died he sold the business and retired.

Besides that oldsters still have shit to do to where they don't want to be aggravated with people checking up on them.

I thought Trevina stole the show with her performance.

Kind of a gritty movie...but a very very good one.

But I enjoy movies where people make a change for the better.

Ya, pretty much the only phone calls I like is let's go fishing, golfing or hunting. Add in wanna see your grandchildren? That one doesn't happen enough.

I tried getting him to go fishing and even bow fishing like we used to do but he had no interest.

His two year old son was killed by his ex-wife....He never was the same afterwards. He was a broken man.

Two year old killed by ex. WTF? Ya, that will take the wind out of you. Hope he recovers some day! I would try taking him to shoot clays. Something cathartic about that shit gun blast and a scattering clay. I was betrayed by some people close to me once upon a time. I shall not get into it. To speak of it gives it power. My way of dealing was to kill a lot of animals and eat them. Still doing it but I am functional and good at killing and cleaning game.

This is the kind of thing JoeBlow ignores regarding the biggest demographic bomb in the world that China is inevitably facing. He's too busy getting out all the messages his handlers have him on orders to deliver.

It will be interesting to see if China eventually starts encouraging immigration to their country from the poorer third world to offset their coming demographic crisis.

Its hard to envision China as a land of immigrants

That don't happen in Asia, they are very xenphobic, you don't gain citizenship, period, and you are allowed to live there if you follow all the rules and meet all the requirements. They will always be able to kick you out whenever you break the rules.

Your family goes with you.
