Good. Maybe we can have the Space Race 2.0 with the Chinese. Competition breeds success after all. And if the West isn't interested in space and it ends up belonging to the Chinese, then at least there is still a human presence and some movement towards a real permanent human endeavor in going to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
As far as who is at fault, it's ours. We vote for Congress and they're the ones who control the purse strings. It isn't a Republican or Democrat issue for the voters and we're not demanding our representatives invest in space. The leadership (or lack thereof) from the White House since Johnson with regard to a space policy doesn't help, but we must look to Congress to get the ball rolling again and maybe the threat of living under a Red Moon will do it.
