Trump ‘likely’ will fire Fed Chair Powell ‘soon,’ White House official says

President Donald Trump told a room full of Republican lawmakers that he will fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, after receiving approval from them to make the move, a senior White House official told CNBC.

Amid repeated denials from administration officials and high-ranking Republicans, the exchange came Tuesday evening in the Oval Office, following Republicans blocking a vote on cryptocurrency legislation that Trump has favored.

“The President asked lawmakers how they felt about firing the Fed Chair. They expressed approval for firing him. The President indicated he likely will soon,” said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to speak candidly on the issue.

Powell has moved to try to defuse one of the pretenses trump may use.

Powell asks inspector general to review $2.5 billion renovation after Trump blasts Fed project

Everyone knows this isn't about renovations. It's about the Fed holding rates steady before the evidence of whether tariffs are causing inflation is in. Don wants cuts now to boost the economy for political reasons as his government falters and fails in so many other areas.

President Donald Trump suggested that a $2.5 billion renovation plan at the Federal Reserve might be sufficient cause to fire Fed Chair Jerome Powell, an escalation of his recent attacks against the central banker.

“I think he’s terrible… But the one thing I didn’t see him as a guy that needed a palace to live in,” Trump told reporters. “But the one thing I would have never guessed is that he would be spending two and a half billion dollars to build a little extension onto the Fed.”

He's grasping to find a rationale to fire Jerome when we all know the actual reason Dotard wants to fire him.

Yo Genius , walk me through the process whereby TARIFFS cause INFLATION...

Jerome Powell has been a terrible Fed Chief. He allowed inflation to get out of control, his biggest job which he failed at.

Do you approve of cost overruns with a 2.5 billion dollar cost to begin with?

Democrats have no concept of debt and that includes Powell.

Since he is economically illiterate, Trump doesn't understand that dropping interest rates while inflation is not yet under control is a bad idea. Even more so when we're not sure of the inflationary effects that his insane tariff "strategy" will have. Any relatively informed, intelligent adult knows this.

Worse, he has surrounded him self with craven sycophants who won't tell him that.

Then we wonder why people start looking for alternatives to capitalism. It's not capitalism that is the problem, it's the fools who are managing it.

I think the problem here is the government trying to manage the economy or just money in general

Some $40 trillion in debt later, maybe that was a bad idea, but capitalism is not to blame

It's Trump’s idiotic tariffs that are fueling inflation and keeping rates high.

Once again, MAGA is setting a benchmark which will come back to ***** slap their stupid faces.

No Fed chair has ever been fired over a policy disagreement. The standard has always been akin to the impeachment of a president. Removal is based on malfeasance or gross misconduct by the Fed chair.

But what is even more stupid is that Trump wants lower interest rates when inflation is on the rise again. Everyone with two brain cells knows that lowering interest rates when inflation is rising is begging for inflation to skyrocket even more.

This is why we don't allow our politicians to get their hands on the monetary printing machine. Because they are stupid and make populist decisions instead of smart decisions.

All Swamp creatures are partisan stooges

Therefore, to not be able to put your stooges in place one you win election seems odd to me.

A rate cut would save America hundreds of billions.

The more serious question should be "why did he decrease rates weeks before an election when inflation was sky high"?

That alone probably should have disqualified him from this position.

Nothing odd about it at all.

Would you feel the same about Supreme Court Justices not being able to be replaced on a whim?

The whole reason the Fed Chair is given a ten year term, and unable to be fired except for cause, is to ensure their independence so they won't be cowed by a bully president.

The FBI Director is also appointed under the same conditions for the same reasons.

15th post
Speaking of benchmarks and FBI directors, the next President will be stuck with the partisan hack Kash Patel. He has a ten year apppointment.

If Trump is able to succeed in removing Powell over policy, that's the benchmark for kissing Patel bye-bye in January 2029.

And all we'll have to show for it is higher inflation and more expensive groceries.

MAGAs never think things through.

INFLATION IS CAUSED BY THE FEDERAL RESERVE BOARD PRINTING $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW.

SHOW ME THAT INFLATION WAS PRESENT BEFORE ITS CREATION

FDR tried to replace those on SCOTUS, something the Left celebrates today and talks about doing again.

Trump is just trying to replace the head of the Fed, something I don't think is comparable.

But the whole argument of the President having such power over the economy through the Fed seems like an argument to end the Fed.

What am I missing?
