Florida man flees alligator, then attacks deputies before being shot dead
"The fact that he was bitten by an alligator, significantly, and still continued his rampage, is shocking," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.
The call to the sheriff's office came in the early morning: A man had been spotted in alligator-infested waters in central Florida. Despite being bitten, he refused the offer of a life preserver and managed to swim across the whole of the lake, where his erratic behavior continued as police arrived: growling at others, attempting to break into a vehicle and charging, garden shears in hand, at deputies.
Shortly after, the man was dead — shot multiple times by police as he tried to take a weapon from their vehicle, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said at a news conference Monday. Judd identified the man as Timothy Schulz, 42, who had a history of drug-related arrests and had only recently been released from Polk County Jail on charges of methamphetamine possession, according to the sheriff's office.
