Children’s toymaker FoloToy has pulled its AI-powered teddy bear “Kumma” after a major safety group revealed that the cuddly toy gave shockingly inappropriate and sometimes dangerous responses to young users, telling them such things like how to light matches and start a fire.
The findings land just weeks before the holiday rush, raising alarms about AI-enabled toys entering homes with minimal guardrails.
Other toys under consideration to be pulled off the shelf, is the Disney Airel's Mermaid doll that teaches girls how poll dance, and Hasbro fluid Cis gender Potato head with altering genital appendages as he talks you through how to perform the gender surgery, altering voice tones once a new gender is created. So far, however, they are still available for sale.
