My apologies to the mods if this is in the wrong forum. I wasn't sure where to put it.
Anyway, I get stuff from a Tom Klingenstein that pops up in my facebook feed from time to time but I never clicked on any of them until now. He cited an article on his site by a Roger Kimball who talks about a phenomenon called the "Purity Spiral", a term, the popularization of which, he attributes to a journalist named Gavin Haynes from back in 2020.
In short, a purity spiral occurs when "...a community becomes fixated on implementing a single value that has no upper limit, and no single agreed interpretation. The result is a moral feeding frenzy.”
This caught my attention because of the out-of-control anti-racism crusade (among other things) that I have been criticizing for some time. The quote above perfectly illustrates the style and manner of the anti-racism crusade: It is a single value that many fixate on, has no upper limit and no single interpretation. The inevitable result is an orgy of religion-like persecution and condemnation that rivals that of the Spanish Inquisition. The only thing lacking is the torture devices and I'm not yet convinced that could never happen.
