The African safari tour industry will tell you that serious injuries and deaths from encounters with wild (and even "tame") animals are rare, but there have been enough of these to conclude that this stupid type of recreation is simply too dangerous.
People have been hurt and killed by lions, leopards, cheetahs,, hippos, giraffes, elephants, rhinos, and cape buffalos. Most of these have a strong territorial instinct, and will sometimes attack vehicles, and people in them.

Best thing to do to observe African wildlife, is view them on your big screen HD TV set.

I spent many nights in Africa. Some of the most beautiful night sky you will ever see.

But I always had an AK, or FN, preferably the latter, whenever I was there.

To be sure. Not only minimal light pollution allowing one to see many times more stars, but from down there, you have the Summer Milky Way passing right overhead (looking towards the center of the Milky Way), which from up here, is low on the southern horizon in the summer.

Then add to that the many spectacular things not seen from the North--- the Magellanic Clouds, 47 Tucanae, Omega Centuari, the Coal Sack, the Tarantula Nebula and on and on. It is the Walt Disneyworld of the sky.

The sky up here in the north even assuming you have the darkness, just pales in comparison.

Well, sure, the African big game is the cool thing to see but this is no zoo, man is not the dominant animal there, and tolerated, not really wanted in their area. You are the intruder.
Some places should be human free.

Wildlife tourists carry cameras.
