The bite will be on at the Outer Banks sure enough!

Sigh, my Banzai surf-fishing trip days are long gone. We used to drive the 7-hours (timing the tide) fish for a few hours till the bite waned, then drive back home with a cooler of fish!

Odd thing, I miss using my casting net to catch finger mullet for bait more than I do the fishing! In fact just the other day I took it out of it's bucket, hung it, and made a couple of repairs.

The surf was rough but fun. Fishing was slack but had a great time. 4-6ft waves and a strong out going current made it tough to stay on my feet and a strong wind made surfing tough except for the pros. It turned to be a good work out my leg muscles are sore. Water temperature was like bath water having a large stretch of Cocoa Beach to myself at sunrise was the best.
god to be back

A bucket of spot caught off the pier used to make my day. The occasional blue was a bonus.

The "chopper blues" used to wear you out in the fall but they were not much to eat. The Taylor blues are a lot better in that regard.

But yeah, Spot are just plain delicious.

BTW....The blood strip out of a blue makes for the best freshwater catfish bait I've ever used. Bloody, oily, and the strips stay on the hook.
