A U.S. F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet was just SH0T DOWN (Friendly Fire)

A US fighter was shot down over the Red Sea. The cause is being reported as "friendly fire".

Ooops~

Two U.S. Navy pilots were shot down over the Red Sea in an apparent "friendly fire" incident, the U.S. military said Sunday. Both pilots were recovered alive, with one suffering minor injuries in the incident.

The incident came as the U.S. military conducted airstrikes targeting Yemen's Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, though the U.S. military's Central Command did not elaborate on what their mission was at the time.

"The guided missile cruiser USS Gettysburg, which is part of the USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, mistakenly fired on and hit the F/A-18, which was flying off the USS Harry S. Truman," Central Command said in a statement.
It wasn't immediately clear how the Gettysburg could mistake an F/A-18 for an enemy aircraft or missile, particularly as ships in a battle group remain linked by both radar and radio communication.

Earlier Saturday, CENTCOM reported that it had conducted precision airstrikes in Houthi-controlled territory in Sana'a, Yemen, against a missile storage facility and a command-and-control facility.

In before DEI ship captain. ;)

Oh shit! Looks like he's an N/A.

Jokes aside, and I doubt the FA18 drivers will appreciate it but not many people have been engaged by a Tico and lived to brag about it.

Shit like this happens all the time - what does Biden or a Trump aka a US president, have to do with this?? - nothing
Or you gonna blame e.g. Carter for the ill-fated Iranian rescue mission as well?

However you can indeed rightfully blame Trump for his unilateral agreement with the Taliban - causing total havoc in Afghanistan and therefore undoing/nullifying a 20 years mission and Billions of $$ spend by the USA and NATO members - solely due to his arrogance and stupidity.

Evidently you have never served in the military because a lot of stupid shit, aka FUBAR, occurs in the military.

Shooting down your own jet is a rare occurrence. I did serve. How about you?

Two other notable “friendly fire” incidents occurred over 20 years ago in the Middle East. Both involved U.S. Patriot anti-aircraft systems (not a warship) in spring of 2003. An American F/A-18 Hornet was shot down as well as a British Tornado one month apart during the Iraq War.

I didn't hang around jets I hung around the maintenance shop.

So, none then. These are pretty rare occurrences for US armed forces.

I've also noticed several Western naval ships grounding or colliding with merchantmen.
That seems odd in an age of GPS.
