Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers is a very good drummer, but his ability to improvise a song on the spot is amazing!
Drumeo is a YouTube channel that brings in famous drummers and they play a song for them that theyve never heard, AND the drum track has been removed, so they have no idea what the drums are supposed to sound like. In all the other Drumeo videos the drummer listens to the song once or twice before trying to come up with something, but Chad just jumps in without hearing it even once.
It might seem like he knows the song because he accurately guesses where the verses, chorus, bridge and the little transition after the bridge are at, but if you pay attention, youll see him catch up to each section after one or two symbol hits. Sometimes he just gets lucky though and anticipates these sections instinctually. Its super clever how he did this. After watching it a bunch of times, i can now see how he did it.
