the allies invade Normandy

Ike was prepared to lose as many men as it took. Is that a good thing? One concept they teach in military leadership is not to try a direct assault on a heavily defended position. The Normandy Invasion rightfully points out the courage of the American Military but the focus on "secrecy" is perhaps exaggerated. "Only" around 3,000 Troops were killed in the initial assault but the month long breakout was a disaster if you consider Allied lives lost. The poor French civilians were kept in the dark and thousands were killed by American artillery, Naval gunfire and bombing.

It was a master misinformation campaign by the allies as they convinced the Germans that the main invasion would take place at Calais. The Germans witheld Normandy reinforcements for days waiting for an invasion that never came

Saved thousands of allied lives

the invasion was in jeopardy when a USN TF captured the U505 two days before the invasion (JUN 4) its was towed on the surface back to the Caribbean. the allies were terrified it would be spotted in which case the German would switch their codes.

Thousands of Allied Troops were killed during the month long "breakout" battle after the Germans shifted their defenses. The incredible Allied losses are overshadowed by the myth of the Calais deception. For a little perspective we lost more Troops on the beach than the entire Iraq/Afghanistan conflict and Americans were taught to consider the D-Day losses as insignificant.

the "myth of the Calais deception" worked to perfection. pinning down German Panzer divisions and convicing Hitler that's where the invasion would come. Normandy was a ruse.

we're talking about about WW2 numbnuts.

I never ever heard one word about DDay losses as being insignificant. Who taught it, and to whom did they teach it?

Life was cheap in the Military at that time and Normandy wasn't the grand victory that was portrayed in the press. Propaganda focused on the heroics and Americans back home had no choice but to accept their losses. Hoover's FBI were everywhere and nobody dared criticize the federal government or risk imprisonment.

FOUR TIMES IN 69 YEARS

June 6, 2013, the 69th anniversary of "D-Day", the largest invasion ever attempted, where 200,000 Americans stormed the beaches at Normandy to begin the final push to defeat Nazi Germany in WWII. D-Day marked the turning point in WWII in Europe, where the Nazis were engaged in mass murder of Jews and minorities by the thousands.
Today, European heads of state make it a point to recall and honor the sacrifices of those who landed in Normandy, as do our Presidents....
well, most of them....

In the 69 years since D-Day, there are four occasions when the President of the United States chose not to visit the D-Day Monument that honors the soldiers killed during the Invasion.

The occasions were:

1. Barack Obama, 2010

2. Barack Obama, 2011

3. Barack Obama, 2012

4. Barack Obama, 2013

For the past 69 years, every American President except Obama have taken the time to honor the memory and sacrifices of the 6,000 American soldiers killed on D-Day. ...Except Obama!

June 6 2010, Obama had no events scheduled.

June 6, 2011, Obama met with the National Security team and was interviewed by WEWS Cleveland and WDIV in Detroit about the auto industry - FAR too busy to visit the D-Day memorial.

June 6, 2012, instead of honoring our fallen soldiers, Obama made a campaign trip to California on Air Force 1 (at our expense) to raise funds for (his) upcoming election.

June 6, 2013, Obama was doing ANOTHER fund raiser with the multimillionaires in the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in Palo Alto CA, once again at our expense.

America - Aren't you proud?

Life was not cheap but many Americans knew that some invasions were to be costly and had to accept the losses. The Normandy invasion news was that the invasion seemed successful.
Plenty of people criticized the government at the time, a number of newspapers were very anti-FDR and anti-Democratic. Newspapers from that period are still available might want to read on WWII as it was occurring.

Not only Americans...

Normandy landings - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces was General Dwight D. Eisenhower while overall command of ground forces (21st Army Group) was given to General Bernard Montgomery. The operation, planned by a team under Lieutenant-General Frederick Morgan, was the largest amphibious invasion in world history and was executed by land, sea and air elements under direct Anglo-American command with over 160,000 soldiers landing on 6 June 1944: 73,000 Americans, 61,715 British and 21,400 Canadians.[6][7] 195,700 Allied naval and merchant navy personnel in over 5,000 ships were also involved.[6][8] The invasion required the transport of soldiers and materiel from the United Kingdom by troop-laden aircraft and ships, the assault landings, air support, naval interdiction of the English Channel and naval fire-support. The landings took place along a 50-mile (80 km) stretch of the Normandy coast divided into five sectors: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword. [/i]

What does Obama have against visiting the D-Day memorial?

Maybe because Britain was involved...he sure does seem to dislike Britain to the max.
What other reason could there possibly be?
After he took office he sent the bust of Winston Churchill that was in the Oval office back to Britain.

The Britain of today is not the Britain of 300 years ago.
Britain today is said to be America's closest ally...and the largest investor in the US economy.

After 9/11, while NYC burned, when Americans were trapped in Britain and they gravitated to Buckingham palace for some reason, the Queen ordered her guards to play their national anthem;
