A local radio station features “10 great songs from one great year”

Today they did 10 songs released during August 1975

To me, the years 1964 to 1974 were stellar.

The set today was pretty Meh. Started with Born to Run and Sweets “Ballroom Blitz” might have been the best

I think Glyn Johns here explains why music before the mid 70s was the best

If you never heard of Glyn Johns…

"One of These Nights" by The Eagles is my favorite song from 1975.
I saw the Eagles at the Day on the Green concert in Oakland on June 29, 1975. They were there with the Doobie Bros., Commander Cody, Kingfish and Elton John made a cameo appearance. Great concert. IIRC, the tickets were less than $50.

1975 was the year Black Sabbath released their 5th official studio album, Sabotage. One of the best albums in heavy metal history as far as I'm concerned.

Their first album came out in 1970 and they had been recording records, selling records and touring and not seeing any of the ******* money while their "manager" was getting richer than a corrupt union boss.

In 1975 Ozzy expressed his udder hatred for the band's manager in the song, Megalomania.

I remember calling into KFIV AM late in the year 1972 and asking them to play Ironman. They said they wouldn't play it because it was demonic. LOL How things have changed.

"Megalomania"

I hide myself inside the shadows of shame
The silent symphonies were playing their game
My body echoed to the dreams of my soul
It started something that I could not control

Where can I run to now?
The joke is on me
No sympathizing God, it's insanity

Why don't you just get out of my life?
Why don't you just get out of my life now?
Why doesn't everybody leave me alone now?
Why doesn't everybody leave me alone?

Obsessed with fantasy, possessed with my schemes
I mixed reality with pseudo-god dreams
The ghost of violence was something I'd seen
I sold my soul to be the human obscene

How could this poison be the dream of my soul
How did my fantasies take complete control?

Why don't you just get out of my life?
Why don't you just get out of my life now?
Why doesn't everybody leave me alone now?
Why doesn't everybody leave me alone?

Well I feel something's taking me I don't know where
It's like a trip inside a separate mind
The ghost of tomorrow from my favorite dream
Is telling me to leave it all behind

Feel it slipping away, slipping in tomorrow
Got to get to happiness, want no more of sorrow

How I lied, went to hide
How I tried to get away from you now
Am I right if I fight?
That I might just get away from you now

Sting me!

Well I feel something's giving me the chance to return
It's giving me the chance of saving my soul
Pictures of demigod are fading away
I'm going backwards but I'm in control

Feel it slipping away, slipping in tomorrow
Getting back to sanity from the depths of sorrow

Was it wise to disguise?
How I tried to get away from you now
Is there a way that I could pay
Or is it true I have to stay with you now?

How I lied, went to hide
How I tried to get away from you now
Am I right if I fight?
That I might just get away from you now

Suck me!

I'm really digging schizophrenia the best of the earth
I'll chase my soul in the fires of hell
Peace of mind eluded me, but now it's all mine
I set the trap but it was me who fell

Feel it slipping away, slipping in tomorrow
Now I've found my happiness from the depths of sorrow

No more lies, I got wise
I despise the way I worship you
Now I'm free, let me see
That now instead I won't be led by you now

Free!

Zappa famously sued Warner Brothers because he suspected the band was not receiving their fair share of album sales. In court, WB stated that the sales records were stored in a warehouse that was recently in a fire and flood but not necessarily in that order.

Years later when Steve Vai was ready to move on from Stunt guitar to a solo career he asked Zappa for advise and Zappa gave him advise literally worth millions, "Own your publishing"

Hendrix was broke at the end. I wonder at executives and companies that think it's good business to starve their talent to death

But if you rolled with it, and was fit, you were covered in young women. ;)

I liked Disco dancing; my friend and I took lessons at the local high school auditorium. We thought we were 'disco queens'.:)

For young men of the era it was "go to where the women were" type of thing. ;)
That too, although some men could really dance too. I think they liked the movie, Saturday Night Fever.

Seems Elvis and John Fogarty complained about the same thing.
