Why Intelligent Design is not Science: Creationism and Falsifiability

With creationists pushing for Intelligent Design to be taught in science classroom these days, I think it may be helpful to consider not whether Intelligent Design is true or false, but rather, regardless of its truth, if it is science at all. Scientific philosopher Karl Popper is credited...

Should Welfare be a Disqualification for Voting?

The same could be said of the right to life and liberty, regardless of skin color. These were even outright stated by our founding fathers, and it took us over a century to get it right. I would have hoped that our nation would be civilized enough to realize that prohibiting those receiving...

    Where's my Global Warming!

When you select a random starting point like 1997, one of the hottest years on record, to compare against, then yes, it does appear to have stopped. Thankfully, when you include all the data, it tells a different story: You can see that 1997 and 2012 are about the same temperature, but 1997...

Should Welfare be a Disqualification for Voting?

You are insane. Anyone who thinks that voting is not a fundamental right in a darn democracy is completely delusional. No one has a right to money. Did anyone claim that? But the act of receiving money should not arbitrarily forfeit your right to participate in a democracy. Whatever happened to...

Should Welfare be a Disqualification for Voting?

Why in the world would receiving money disqualify you from a fundamental right, as provided in the 14th amendment, not to mention legislated in the Voting Rights Act? Should the elderly living on social security forfeit their right to vote as well? How about we just take away the right to vote...

LOL, Global warming scientists, trapped by thick ice.

Using strawmen is not a valid tactic to win an argument. You were the only one who stated that "science can't use raw data," a misrepresentation of a chart that uses temperature anomalies rather than absolute temperature.

Mostly that you were wrong. The amount of Antarctic ice sitting on top of Antarctica dwarfs the ice sheet on Greenland, and the amount of floating ice in the Arctic is much higher than in the Antarctic. The fact that you can't recognize this speaks volumes to your willing ignorance. But, that...

You ever heard of Australia? Indeed, but how much of the Arctic ice is situated on Greenland? Try to stay focused here. Go take out a map and estimate the percentage of ice situated on land in the Arctic and tell me with a straight face that the majority is not sitting in the ocean.

Conclusions are not founded by simply charting raw data. All data is analyzed and tested to form hypotheses and tests. Go take a statistics course and see how far charting raw data and looking at it gets you before you have to whip out the calculator and do some hypothesis testing.

Wouldn't they be expected even if global warming was the most obvious fact in the world? Clueless people aren't the people to aspire to.

Do you realize how small Greenland is, or are you forming your opinions based on a Mercator projection map? Most of the ice in the arctic is floating in the ocean. Go look at a map of the arctic circle before you embarrass yourself.

LOL, Global warming scientists, trapped by thick ice.

Says who, exactly? There is a difference between weather and climate, and local weather is not really a good determing factor of the state of the global climate. I was not aware that the New York Times or London MET were experts in climate change, and I'm not even sure this statement is true...

LOL, Global warming scientists, trapped by thick ice.

Indeed, warmer temperatures cause more ice in the antarctic because the ice in the antarctic is not floating in the ocean but resting on top of land. Melting ice changes the salinity in the water, causing a change in the freezing temperature. This doesn't happen in the northern hemisphere...

LOL, Global warming scientists, trapped by thick ice.

Melting fresh water ice caps cause a drop in salinity in ocean water, making the water freeze at higher temperatures.
