Do Taxes Encourage or Discourage Behavior?

Taxes are not strictly used to discourage activities...Taxes are mainly used to create demand for the currency, but thats another topic. They are also used to generate revenue.

    Bill Still's Money Masters

Ed, My analogy wasn't perfect, few analogies are. But I thought it illustrated the reasoning behind using a quasi private central bank for a country monetary policies. It was a response to JoeWP question on why use a middle man like the FED, instead of the government issuing money. And what...

    Bill Still's Money Masters

This is how I understand the whole Guvmint' having the FR "print" the money for them. Is like a fat person that doesn't trust itself to have cookies and ice cream around the house. So it hires the "FED" to control the cookie/ice cream allowance. And it leaves it up to the "FED" discretion to...

Too stupid!! I agree with you that supply is important, we agree on that. But demand is just as important. You can't have one without the other. To say that SUPPLY is all that matters is downright "Too Stupid" to use your words.

But by the same token, there has been a bunch of products that someone supplied or tried to supply but there wasn't any demand. So you can't really have one with out the other. Sometimes the military "demands" products or technology that doesn't even exist...That's demand driven.

    The Basics of Economics.

With all due respect, this is utter nonsense. Supply and demand are the 2 sides of a coin...you can't say one is more important than the other.

Does it bother you that our entire government is based on forcing people via gunpoint

This is pretty bizarre way at looking at things. The only "rational" conclusion of that statement is complete anarchy.
