I hate to be the bear of sad tidings, but Cristol's claim that the US government conducted "ten official US investigations (including five congressional investigations)" of the attack on the USS Liberty is refuted by the US government. You can verify that for yourself at Ask For Copy of Attack...
As a survivor of the June 8, 1967 Israeli attack on the USS Liberty currently serving as the Historian of the USS Liberty Veterans Association I can state unequivocally that the outrage some have expressed that the attack on our ship is being raised almost 57 years after the attack pales when it...
Mainly because:
The US government has refused to investigate the attack and the culpability of the attackers leaving the attack on our ship the only attack on a US Navy ship since the end of WWII NOT investigated by the US government. Unlike the attacks on the USS Pueblo, USS Stark, and the USS...
From both the US and Israeli sides.
Least reliable does not mean unreliable. Nor does it mean ignored.
I could be wrong but I doubt the US government used the "least reliable" argument to prevent eyewitness testimony when investigating the attacks on the USS Pueblo, USS Stark and USS Cole...
Which troubles those of us who survived the attack on the USS Liberty because people lump us in with those who bring up the attack and continuing coverup of the attack for reasons other than promoting an agenda that results in a US government investigation of the attack.
People tend to ignore...
To answer your last question first. Of course we would. By the same token, would you accept that Israel committed War Crimes as detailed in our War Crimes Report if the investigation the DoD is mandated under the DoD Law of War Program to perform is conducted?
We think they didn't because...
Wouldn't it be preferable to have a US government investigation make that determination?
Perhaps once the US government investigation is conducted you will have something to base your claim on.
No one has every presented any verifiable evidence that we were transmitting anything to "the Arabs."
It's simply a conspiracy theory used in an attempt to justify the attack on our ship.
The more times it's repeated, the more vacuous the claim becomes.
If anyone had evidence the claim is...
If you count disobeying a direct order we received every morning at quarters while in Malta dry docks not to discuss the attack with anyone, you can include virtually every USS Liberty crewman in that list.
The trick is persuading the US government to prosecute us for disobeying that order. If...
Bitly is a url shortener. Lloyd's and Glenn's statements are included with other USS Liberty survivors' statements at USS Liberty Survivor Statements, USS Liberty Document Archive
Fortunately, we have the luxury of not living in the world of conspiracy theories.
Unfortunately, we live in a world in which the President of the United States ordered rescue aircraft recalled while we were still under attack and calling for help.
And a world where the US government allows...
Can you share an authoritative source for your claim? The conversations I've had with my USS Liberty shipmates who were in a position to know lead me to believe that we were not acting as your message asserts we were.
We've been in touch with people who were in the USAFSS in Viet Nam who were receiving written reports but haven't heard from anyone who was listening to the attack as it happened. I'm curious to know where you were when you were listening and was it being recorded.
As for strafing of life...
