It will be interesting to see how this plays out. The first thing I thought f when reading this was the existence of NAMBLA. An organization based solely on ideology that if put into practice in any way is criminal.

I read the text of the bill and it is a very dangerous piece of legislation. It is a pre-emptive strike against any civic organizations because they coul become radical.

If it is passed, and it looks as though it will, forums like this messageboard will become traps for those of us who feel that it is okay to speak freely and express our opinions.

I think this Court is capable of anything.

And if you're looking for evidence of partisanship, you can look no further than Bush v Gore (though to be fair that wasn't *this* Bush's Court).

Ideological difference are not partisanship. Partisanship means you adhere to what the "party" wants, regardless of ideology. Ideological difference have always existed on the Court and are expected to reflect the varying ideologies of Presidents who appoint the Justices. There's nothing wrong with ideological difference. There is a lot wrong with partisanship.

As for the Court being capable of anything, I haven't seen much evidence for that kind of alarmism. One of the most egregious cases to be decided in some time was Kelo and the conservatives on the Court (plus O'Connor) got that one right.

and risk the same labels David Souter recieved? Ideology and partisanship seem to be birds of a feather when scalia, thomas, roberts and alito flock together. I don't see Scalia or Thomas bucking too many party lines very often.
