World's Largest Solar Farm Goes Online In California

Another giant solar farm has been constructed on desert lands in California, stealing the title of the largest solar plant in the world. The farm, which is called Topaz, recently went online after its final 40-megawatt phase was completed, making it the first 500-plus megawatt solar plant to be up and running in the US.

This is a fine way to use waste land!

One half giga-watt. No birds killed, bet there are going to be generations of rabbits and other desert inhabitants living under those panels. Add grid scale batteries, and that is 24/7 power. Looks fine to me. I can thing of several places in Eastern Oregon where this would be feasable, Catlow Valley is one of them.

I don't understand why Oregon only has 60mw of solar, while to our south, California has over 5gw.

Our governor sucks.
