Why Obama Killed the Keystone Pipeline

It's going through cuz Obama can't stop it. No federal boundary is crossed, so he is basically taking credit for allowing part of the pipeline to be built that he couldn't stop.

Obama can have the EPA stop anything! He can also use the LRB. There are many, many, many tools at his disposal. Jimmy Carter used many tactics to slow the Alaska Pipeline construction.
Obama is already using the EPA to impliment Cap and Trade since the Congress didn't agree with it.

Obama is circumventing the Congress, and is dictating using an agency that needs to go.

Cap and trade use to be a republican idea.

Like the healthcare mandate? Go figure...

Been thinking about this ever since he did it. Seems odd doesn't it, to turn down a project that the unions wanted, thousands of new, good-paying jobs, and importing oil from a freindly neighbor rather than an unfriendly country elsewhere.

You really ought to try and keep up. The pipeline wasn't killed. It's moving forward.

mark me not surprised that a line from Cushing Oklahoma to Texas fools you......eat up.

Only after in an election year Obama has faced a shitstorm of criticism from even his beloved unions.

It's transparent as Hell.

I'm confused, the name of this thread is "Why Obama Killed the Keystone Pipeline" but then you say "he couldn't stop it'.

Anyway, I'm glad it's moving forward. Obama would be an idiot for actually killing the project. I'm glad he caved. Is this an election year?

the trans canadien US border pipeline is NOT moving forward, they are building a branch line the bottom left corner portion of the pipeline from Okl. to the gulf refineries.

Many of us in Canada see it as ended even though the politicos and media are saying this is not so and simply a halted process.

U.S. President Barack Obama travelled to Oklahoma Thursday to underscore his support for expediting the permit approval process for the southern half of the Keystone XL pipeline.

Obama's announcement only relates to the so-called "Cushing pipeline" from Cushing, Oklahoma to the Gulf of Mexico.

Obama is just allowing the Keystone Pipeline to be built from Cushing, Oklahoma to the Gulf of Mexico because Canada's Enbridge outsmarted him buy buying up ConocoPhillip's stake in the Seaway Pipeline. Enbridge is turning around all the pumps along the Seaway Pipeline to reverse the flow of oil. This will make it transport oil from Cushing, Oklahoma to the Gulf of Mexico the same way as the Keystone Pipeline would.

yup, I didn't bother with the particulars becasue, well, they don't want to know, the media told them its on and their feeble uninquisitive minds cannot allow them to see they have been played.

I can post articles/you tubes of obama saying in one townhall, drilling won't solve our problem, then in the same 2 week period at another saying, we are drilling like crazy.....they are sheep. *shrugs*

You can pull red herrings out of your ass all day long. The fact remains that the premise and statements, calling Obama a liar, in this thread are clearly bullshit. Bullshit that you, and your ilk jumped on the bandwagon with, and you're too big a coward to man up to.
Now just a little, minute man. Obama says "we aren't" to one and "we are" to another group of people he is trying to snake oil. Where is the truth? It can't be both, because they're diabolical opposites. One of his statements is a lie. Which one? A, B, AB, or neither? That's four different outcomes, and at any given time he plays magician games with fact manipulation to suit the audience.

Obama is slowing it down, not speeding it up. He has manipulated your feeble mind with a photo-op, bus tour & speeches you ignorant fool.

I fully expect the tin foil right to make claims that Obama is trying to kill the pipeline, in the face of all evidence to the contrary. It's what the right does.

And he's been called on ALL the formulas and he knows he's in trouble.

He killed because it because

1. The environmentalists in his party wanted it killed
2. There is evidence that it would cause oil prices in America to rise
3. Even if prices didn't rise in America, prices probably would have risen in Chicago and the midwest.

Why would completing the Keystone pipeline cause oil prices to rise here in the US? Has to be cheaper than importing it from overseas.

Umm because the governor of Nebraska requested it?

The REPUBLICAN governor of Nebraska. But please don't let the truth stop your bashing of Obama. Facts and the Truth are no longer strengths of the Republican Party. They will do or say anything to get Obama out of the WH.

It only causes WTI spot crude price to increase in Cushing Oklahoma. This is the price you see on TV & in news paper headlines. That price is currently $106. The thing is 80+% of the country can't use that oil because it is landlocked. Only refineries in the middle of the country get the cheap oil. That leaves all the refineries on the Gulf, East & West Coast having to look elsewhere for their crude. The oil they use is from ships with either Brent or LLS crude that is currently $126. This is why the coast are importing cheaper gas from other countries. This is the main reason why the 2 big East coast refineries can't compete with foreigners & recently shut-down sending all those jobs overseas. The pipeline allows the mid US & Canada oil producers to fetch a fair market price for their landlocked oil so they can hire & drill more in the USA & Canada.

In short - Who cares if the oil price you see on TV goes up as long as the gas price at the pump goes down for most of Americans & we can keep the refineries on the coast running & those jobs in America? Obama is the only one concerned with the headlines saying Crude Oil Prices Spiked because he allowed the pipeline. This may also make people believe the dollar has lost value. That is the #1 reason why Obama wants the oil to remain land locked. This is so Bernanke can continue to run the printing press & Obama can run up debt without appearing to drive up oil price.

It will divert Canadian crude away from the Chicago PADD and be used to create refined product which will be exported. Or at least that's what an energy analyst with 40 years of experience said a few days ago.

TransCanada Pipelines executives testified in the Canadian Parliament that it would accrue $5 billion to Canadian producers at the expense of American consumers. As a Canadian, I'm A-OK with that. Plus, its possible they could have been exaggerating to get the pipeline approved in Canada. But the Canadians definitely see it as a profit center by raising US prices.

Da*n, and I liked Esprit sleepwear, it's very comfortable.............well except that stuff that was made in China and banned in California because it would catch fire and burn up those little ones wearing it......BTW does anyone still sell the stuff??

I can see how it will allow Canada & North Dakota to make more on their oil. I do not see how it would raise prices on American Consumers. It should lower prices at the Gas Pumps for most Americans.
